He married and was the father of four, two sons and two daughters, at the advent of the Gurdwara reform movement. Dharam Singh and his elder brother, Ichchhar Singh, offered themselves as volunteers for the liberation of Gurdwara Janam Asthan at Nankana Sahib. Preparations for the marriage of their nephew were in hand when the call came. Both left at once and joined the Dharovali column which was massacred to a man by the hired assassins of Narain Das, the Mahant, on 20 February 1921. See NANKANA SAHIB MASSACRE
