LAKKHU, BHAI
LAKKHU, BHAI, a pious Sikh of the time of Guru Hargobind (1595-1644) was also a brave warrior. He commanded a troop in the battle of Kartarpur fought against the imperial army under Qutab Khan,faujdar of Jalandhar and a cousin of Painda Khan. Painda Khan, the Pathan who had been reared by Guru Hargobind and who had remained with him for many years but had now turned hostile and attacked him with his cousin`s help. According to Gurbilas Chhevin Patshahi, Bhai Lakkhu fought valiantly at the head of his contingent.He continued to fight even after his horse had been killed, but was felled as an arrow from Qutab Khan`s bow hit him in the forehead. As he lay wounded, Qutab Khan severed his head with a blow of his sword. According to Bhatt Vahi Multani Sindhi, the battle of Kartarpur raged for three days 26-28 April 1635.
