He was especially known for his honesty, and, according to Bhai Mani Singh, Sikhan di Bhagat Mala, his favourite maxim was: “Even a penny out of the devotees` offerings appropriated for one`s own use is like devouring a housefly, which would not only make one throw up the food eaten, but also leave the body exhausted.
” He had the privilege of visiting Amritsar often and receiving instruction directly from the Guru. See, also, Bhai Gurdas, Varan, XI. 22. BIBLIOGRAPHY 1. Mani Singh, Bhai, Sikhan di Bhagat Mala. Later, he once visited Amritsar to receive instruction from Guru Hargobind.
As says Bhai Mani Singh, Sikhan dt Bhagat Mala, he supplicated the Guru thus: “0 True King, you are the bestower of mercy. You are our liberator. Pray slash my bonds of birth and death. “The Guru said, “One attains emancipation by gaining awareness of the Divine Reality. God is Omniscient, but man`s knowledge is limited. God, like the sun, showers His light on everyone, everywhere, but calm and clear water reflects the sun`s image vividly whereas muddy and disturbed water throws back but a dim and distorted image. One`s knowledge of God depends upon the nature and state of one`s mind.” See Bhai Gurdas, Varan, XI. 31.
