BUDDH SINGH. BABA (1819-1906), to his followers `Guru` Hari Singh, was the younger brother of Baba Ram Singh, founder of the Namdhari or Kuka movement. He was born on Assu sud73,1876 Bk/22 September 1819, the son of Bhai Jassa Singh and Mai Sada Kaur of Rilpur Raian (now Bhaini Sahib) in Ludhiana district. He lived the life of a householder in his native village till the time his elder brother, on the Baisakhi day of 1857, formally declared himself to be the initiator of the Namdhari movement.

DHANNA, BHAGAT (b. 1415?), one of the medieval saints whose bani has been incorporated in the Guru Granth Sahib, describes himself in a hymn, in Raga Asa, as an ignorant Jatt and explains how he was attracted to the worship of God by the examples of Namdev (a calicoprinter), Kabir (a weaver), Ravidas (a cobbler) and Sain (a barber). Nabhadas, Bhaktamal, includes Dhanna among the twelve disciples of Ramanand (1299-1410), though it has been questioned if all the twelve did indeed live at the same time. Max Arthur Macauliffe fixes AD 1415 as the year of Dhanna`s birth, but his name nowhere appears in the writings of Kabir (f7. 15th century) or Ravidas (fl. 15th century).

GOBIND RAM, BHAI (d. 1845), son of Bhai Harbhaj and a grandson of Bhai Vasti Ram, had, like his brother Bhai Ram Singh, an honoured position at the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. A good scholar of Sanskrit and Persian, Gobind Ram, was of a retiring nature and more interested in spiritualism and medicine. According to Sohan Lal Suri, the court historian, Maharaja Ranjit Singh was highly impressed by Gobind Ram`s knowledge of metaphysics and often had long discussions with him. Bhai Gobind Ram, who suffered a paralytic stroke in 1840, died at Lahore on 23 March 1845.
