PARYAI ADI SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI DE is a lexicon of the Guru Granth Sahib prepared by Sant Sute Prakash. The year of its completion as recorded in the colophon is 429 Nanakshahi (AD 1898). The work comprises 1440 pages of which 110 are devoted to a commentary on the fapu (jl). It is stated by the author in the introduction that the Japu(ji) was composed by Guru Nanak at the Sumer mountain, and that its different stan zas were meant as replies to various questions put to him by the Siddhas there. The author has explicated the text of the Japu(fi) in the question answer style, posing questions on hebalf of the Siddhas and explaining stanzas of the Japu(ji) as Guru Nanak`s answers to them.
RANG DAS, BHAI. a Bhandari Khatri of Gharuan, an old village in Ropar district of the Punjab, was a prominent Sikh of the time of Guru Amar Das. He had been a follower of Bairagi sddhus until he met Bhai Paro, whose example led him to embrace the Sikh faith. Bhai Rang Das is also said to have held charge of a manji or preaching district.
SARBATT KHALSA (sarbatt from Sanskrit sarva/ sarvatas meaning the whole or entire) is a term with a dual connotation. It is a concept as well as an institution. In the conceptual sense, KhaJsa is the extension of sarig"at, holycongregation, an institution which has been eulogized in the Sikh Scripture as symbolizing God`s Own presence (GG.460,1314, B35). Sarbatt Khalsa in this sense is a mystic entity representing the "integrated conscience" of the entire Sikh people imbued with the all pervasive spirit of the Divine. Guru Gobind Singh transformed sahgat into Khalsa sub serving God`s will or pleasure.
SRI SATIGURU Jl DE MUHAIN DJAN SAKHIAN, i.e. witnesses or instructions from the lips of the venerable Guru himself, is the title of a manuscript, preserved in Gurdwara Manji Sahib at Kiratpur in the Sivaliks by the granthi, Babu Singh, who claims descent from Bibi Rup Kaur, adopted daughter of Guru Har Rai, NanakVH (1630-1661). The manuscript is said to have been transcribed by Bibi Rup Kaur and given her as a gift by the Guru at the time of her marriage. It has now been edited and published, with five additional sakhis, by a young scholar, Narindar Kaur. Of the thirty-three sakhis in the original manuscript, one is common with MS. No. 1657 (AD 1661) and two witli MS. No. 5660 (n.d.), both preserved in (lie Sikh Reference Library, Amritsar (since destroyed).
